About the event
Kick off the new year with an afternoon Meet & Greet on January 3rd from 12-3pm with Ashley Aponte-Rivera, a Borikén-born artist whose work honors the ancestral memory and living spirit of the Taíno people. Through painting, sculpture, and symbolic imagery, they channel the voices of their Indigenous Caribbean heritage—revealing stories of resilience, identity, and spiritual continuity.
Ashley's show Echoes of Borikén: The Spirit of the Taíno, on view January 2-31, is a reclamation and a celebration. Each piece serves as a bridge between past and present, guided by the energy of the zemí, the sacred forces believed to inhabit and protect the natural world. Ashley’s art invites viewers to reconnect with the wisdom of the island, the rhythm of the ancestors, and the enduring presence of Taíno culture that lives beyond colonial erasure.
Rooted in tradition yet expressed through a contemporary visual language, their work stands as a reminder:…
